North Of The Border---December 20, 2007

Well, everything has been busy as usual and my "one month vacation" has not been a vacation at all.

It seems I barely got home and we were off to Chicago for my residency interviews on the 6th of this month. We met Cheryl's folks at KANSAS CITY International where they took charge of Kirsten and Caleb for the weekend. When we got there, it began to snow heavily. Luckily, we were able to standby for an earlier flight. We weren't able to sit together, but we got on. I sat in the very last row on a McDonnell Douglas Super 80, but Cheryl got to sit over the wing. I always try to sit over the wing because in any photo of plane wreckage, the wing is fairly recognizable while most of the fuselage is destroyed. It probably wouldn't make any real difference, though. I didn't even have a window and it was a little noiser sincle the engines on the Super 80 are tail mounted. When we came home, the weather was even worse. Again, we were able to get an earlier flight back to KC. Unfortunately, an ice storm had hit down in Lamar and they couldn't meet us at the airport as planned. So, we drove down to get them. When we got there, they were roasting hotdogs in the fireplace. The power outage continued for over a week!

The interviews went great and a number of directors have called me back. I really hit it off with Dr. Good who is the residency director at Truman Medical Center---Lakewood. This used to be called Truman East so maybe you know the hospital by that name. It is technically in the city limits of KANSAS CITY, but in reality it is in the Lee's Summit area. Since I did not do a rotation at Truman Lakewood, I went down and spent some time with Dr. Good this week. Dr. Good is very well trained. Here is his CV.

Well, we got along great and I really liked the other attendings, the hospital, and the surgery centers they work at. Unless something unexpected happens, I will be doing my residency in KANSAS CITY with Dr. Good. So, for those who have been wondering (maybe ourselves more than anyone!) we will be moving to KANSAS CITY sometime in the near future.

Here is the websites for the hospital and for Dr. Good if you are interested.

Truman Lakewood has been remodeled in the last year and is magnificent. I understand the grounds have enjoyed a rich history and was orignally seized by the government from the Younger Brothers, but I have not verified this.

Next month, I will be in Springfield doing my private practice rotation with Dr. Park. Then for February, I will be returning to Tennessee for 4 months until I graduate.

We will be home for Chistmas, but I don't know what our specific plans are.

That's all for now.
